Silverbrook – a once-thriving village is now under the shadow of something sinister. As one of the settlements in the Mistwood Vale region, it is governed by a regional council that includes representatives from all major towns and villages in the Vale. While the village still maintains its idyllic natural beauty, the palpable greed and corruption within its social fabric, especially within the Church of Evangora, have soured its once harmonious atmosphere.
The Mayor of Silverbrook, Mayor Gregory Thorne, runs the town with a sense of avarice, reflecting the fortune-focused influence of the Church of Evangora. This church plays a significant role in the community, acting as both a religious institution and a governing force. Though it draws people in for its promises of wealth and prosperity, whispers suggest that darker alliances and rituals are unfolding within its sacred chambers.
Adding to the intrigue, Silverbrook is currently plagued by the threat of a shapeshifting entity known as the Arcane Monster. This creature is suspected to be a byproduct or minion of Grand Wizard Alistair, from the capital, Midgard, and has links to lost memories of Elise, one of the adventurers in town.
Natural elements have also been behaving erratically, with the most recent shocking event being a bolt of lightning from a storm elemental striking a house across from the Church of Evangora. This house was the childhood home of Elise’s mother, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding saga.
Districts
Goldenshade Market: This bustling commercial hub is the birthplace of both fortunes and destitution. Peddlers and entrepreneurs hawk enchanted trinkets and rare commodities, often at high stakes, while gambling parlours dot the landscape.
Evangora Heights: Home to the upper crust, this area is built on the spoils of risky ventures and speculative magic. People here are constantly involved in arcane stock markets, trading futures in magical artefacts and spells.
Rivermist Wharf: The district closest to the river, it’s a hub for smuggling operations and black-market trades. Underground gambling dens here offer games far more perilous and arcane than mere cards or dice.
Willowdale Estate: Mainly residential, this district is where people dream of moving up to Evangora Heights. Many homes double as small casinos or speculative magical enterprises, as residents gamble on their future.
Thundertop Commons: Open spaces and parks disguise the real business here—high-stakes outdoor games and contests of magical prowess. People here are willing to bet on anything and everything.
Councilwatch Keep: The supposed seat of governance is as corrupt as the market. Laws are enacted like bets, and policies change based on the outcomes of clandestine games of chance among the council members.
Aleheart Tavernry: This district is filled with pubs and inns, most of which offer their own local brews laced with luck-enhancing spells for patrons. The popular bar games here often include a magical twist and are notorious for their addictive, gamble-oriented nature.
Forgefire Lane: Craftsmen and artisans contribute their own form of gambling by forging magical items and trinkets that they swear will bring luck or fortune. An air of hopeful desperation pervades the forges and workshops.
Shadowveil Cemetery: This sprawling burial ground borders the Evangora Heights and is often said to be the resting place for both the blessed and the cursed. It’s a place where many go to pay respects but few linger, as tales circulate that one’s luck might just run out within these hallowed grounds.
